Since the moment that season five of Game of Thrones ended fans have been theorizing about what’s in store for Westeros next year. With not a year going by without the massacring of key characters it has become a necessity for the creators of the show to replenish the cast for each sequential season.
The most recent signing to the iconic fantasy narrative was just announced and it is none other than the great Max Von Sydow. The Swedish thespian is preparing to play the three eyed raven according to Empire Magazine. With a professional acting career spanning 65 years and with credits in more than 100 films (not to mention countless Television projects and decades spent in the theatre) Sydow is bound to fit right into the role of the medieval mystic.
Sydow’s character sat out all of last season but will apparently be returning to mentor Bran Stark following his season 4 exile from Westeros which lead him north of the wall.
With the show about to eclipse the books for the first time it will be interesting to see where the writers take the various storylines. Over the last two years the audience has seen the show begin to diverge from the from George R.R. Martin’s original cannon with the adjustment of minor, and more recently – not so minor, details and characters. However this coming season marks the first time that fans of the books and the show alike will be on a level playing field – none the wiser as to what to expect.
Though it’s rumoured that we are in for as many as another three seasons of the monumental HBO series it is still anyone’s guess as to how the show will end. What is likely however is that with the recruitment of theatrical veterans the likes of Max Von Sydow season six of Game of Thrones is bound to aim for an all time high in quality storytelling.
