FIB’s TOP MODELS Volume 63 — Sexiest Girls: Alyssa Miller

The world is full of beautiful people. But being sexy dwarfs beauty — it is more than just a pretty face or nice physique. When you look at the Sexiest Girls we have chosen, you see a common factor: they all own their sexuality. There will always be critics, but being sexy is about having the cheers of admiration drown the whispers of jealousy.

So each week, let FIB give you a glimpse into our upcoming book, TOP MODELS Volume 63 — Sexiest Girls. Be warned, though: some of these women can make Kate Moss jealous.

You could be forgiven for mistaking Miller as someone of Russian or eastern European descent. In fact, it is this look that has made her such a unique entity, inviting international praise. Her olive skin complements her wide, hazel eyes, while her plump lips and tight nose often lead to comparisons with Irina Shayk.

Miller exudes a confidence through the camera that is beyond her years, portraying an assured persona usually reserved for women in the twilight of their careers. Add to this the fact that Miller is managed by some of the globe’s leading talent agencies — IMG Models, MONSTER Mgmt and NOUS — and you can understand why she is held in such a high esteem.

It is incredible to think that Miller has been modelling on the international stage for ten years, especially since she is only 26! In this time, she has featured in shoots for leading international retailers, including Victoria’s Secret, Sports Illustrated, Guess, Diesel and Laura Biagiotti.

Like Adriana Lima, there is no superlative to describe Miller’s unconventional entry into the fashion industry. Born in the LA suburb of Santa Clarita, Miller had a childhood that can only be described as relatively normal. In a 2013 interview with Vogue, Miller revealed she had always seen her future as a professional footballer. However, after a guest at her parents’ dinner party suggested she try modelling, Miller’s father clandestinely sent photos of his then-15 year old daughter to global talent agency, IMG. Heaven knows how rewarding he imagined this pushy parenting to be.

Two years later in 2005, aged 16, Miller was the face of Stella McCartney’s fall ad campaign. To cap off a spectacular debut year in the industry, Miller graced the spring runway for French designer Roland Mouret’s New York show.

Miller’s ascent to global status continued in 2006 when she walked Doo.Ri’s autumn show in New York, as well as fronting Diesel’s spring ad campaign. In October that year, testament to Miller’s potential as a serious model, she appeared on the cover of the October issue for German Vogue alongside compatriot Darla Baker.

The stream of suitors keen to capitalise on Miller’s beauty continued in 2010, where she was the face of both Diesel and Guess’s campaigns. Testament to Miller’s rise is particularly evident in her Guess campaign that featured fellow Sexy Girl, Kate Upton. That year, she was photographed by the renowned photographer Vincent Peters for Guess’ MARCIANO Collection and Seductive fragrance, as well as fronting their Fall/Winter Campaign that was shot by Ellen von Unwerth.

As well as 2006, Miller had a breakthrough year in 2011, as she reached the height all models aspire, but very few make: she modelled for Victoria’s Secret’s Summer Collection. To understand the gravity of this, it is important to note the 2011 VS Summer Collection also included Miranda Kerr, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Adriana Lima and Candice Swanepoel, to name a few. Following this, Miller was the face of two breakthrough fragrances: Laura Biagiotti’s Roma and Guess Seductive’s I’m Yours. Since 2012, Miller has also worked for Blumarine, fronting their Bellissima and Lovely Rose fragrances.

In early 2015, Miller did a shoot for Vogue Mexico, donning what she described as “Retro Miami vibes”. This vintage shoot was unlike anything she had done before, yet she excelled in it, highlighting Miller’s versatility as a model. In June that year, she continued her rise as an esteemed model when she featured on the cover of ELLE España.

Miller excelled off the runway when in 2014 she launched a meditation-wear collection for Robyn Berkley’s line, Live the Process. However, this collaboration with the fashion publicist is more than producing practical and comfortable activewear. With part of the proceeds supporting David Lynch Foundation — a not-for-profit that aims to transform lives through meditation and reducing trauma — Miller is contributing to a society that has given her so much in return.

Miller is as talented in the glitz of fashion as she is away from it. She is the global ambassador for STOMP Out Bullying, an American organisation raising awareness for bullying and cyber-bullying amongst children and teens. As well as this, Miller is currently studying Film/TV Production as an undergraduate at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, whose alma mater include Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese and the late Phillip Seymour Hoffman. It is fitting she would pursue this — in 2013, she featured in the film clip for Train’s Mermaid and M83’s Raconte-Moi Une Histoire.

While nothing is guaranteed, one could argue we are likely to hear a lot more about Miller in the future.
