War For The Planet Of The Apes is the third film to be released in the reboot series of the classic Planet of the Apes series. During New York Comic-Con, director Matt Reeves showcased a seven minute highlight reel of incomplete footage from the new film with comments from himself, producer Dylan Clark and star Andy Serkis. Here, we got a glimpse of the stark circumstances that Caesar and his Apes are faced upon from the new teaser.

The film will be set two years following the events of Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes. Although relatively light of details, the plot will deal with Caesar and his colony under conflict from humans. Facing against the humans leader, known as The Colonel played by the ever reliable Woody Harrelson, Caesar must battle with his darker instincts to avenge his own kind. All this will determine the fate for each others species and Earth’s future as they know it.

The teaser may not give us a lot to go on, but with the open conclusion of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, we deduce the conflict between ape and human will finally commence. This reboot series has become one of the recent franchises to successfully bring back an old franchise and adopt it into the modern age.

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes (2011) starred James Franco, John Lithgow and of course, Andy Serkis  in his brilliant portrayal of Caesar the Ape. Critics greeted the reboot with appraisal for its staggering visual effects and Serkis’ performance, with Fox even pushing for an Oscar consideration. It was also a major box office hit, taking in close to $500 million over its $93 million budget. The film was recognised by the Oscars for a Visual Effects nomination.

Three years later, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes came out, starring a whole new human cast with the likes of Gary Oldman, Keri Russell and Aussie talent Kodi Smit-McPhee and Jason Clarke. With an engaging script and once again impressive special effects and an amazing Serkis’ performance, the sequel was received as a strong followup. It performed strongly at the box office as well, taking in over $700 million worldwide.

The series seems to be getting better through every instalment and hopefully, we can only expect more.
