Australian electronic pop dominates with Sydney producer Flume scoring a phenomenal eight nominations ahead of this year’s ARIA Awards.
With just a number of weeks until the 2016 ARIA Awards Presented By Telstra, the Australian Recording Industry Association have recently announced the nominees in all categories, with the winners to be announced at The Star, Sydney on Wednesday, November 23, 2016.
Flume has dominated this year’s nominations, with Flume expected to take home a number of ARIA gongs. Having already taken home three Artisan awards, Harley Streten aka Flume has dominated the charts with his album Skin and singles Never Be Like You and Say It. With eight nominations on the night and the announcement that he will also be performing, Flume is set to sweep home another couple awards. Speaking to the Guardian Australia, Flume described the difficult process of following from his successful self titled debut in 2013:
“I put a lot of pressure on myself to have my music at a certain quality, and that wasn’t a positive thing. Skin was a totally different experience than the first record. It didn’t just come.”
The ARIA nominations were also dominated by Youtube star-turned-pop artist Troye Sivan who is up for seven awards in sight while Illy, The Avalanches and Sia are all up for six.
This year’s ARIAs will celebrate a “record breaking year” according to CEO Dan Ronsen, who spoke to Billboard saying that 16 homegrown acts have topped the ARIA Charts and a cadre of acts blowing up overseas. In addition to this, one of the country’s most cherished acts, Crowded House, will perform and be inducted at the ceremony into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
