With the upcoming season of Game of Thrones currently being filmed in Europe, fans are getting excited and we have a little casting tidbit to share with them…
Brash Irish UFC fighter, Conor McGregor will have a role in the upcoming season. UFC President Dana White confirmed that McGregor has just completed filming a cameo on the show.
“I knew a few months ago that they were interested in putting him in the show. I’m glad he did it. It will be great. The show is huge. It’s awesome, and I’m excited for him.”
It has long been known that the creators of Game of Thrones, David Benioff and Dan Weiss are huge fans of UFC even breaking the news about Season 7 being shorter than usual during a visit to the UFC Unfiltered podcast. While showrunners David and Dan and the whole team at HBO are notoriously tight-lipped with news and guard any potential spoilers closely, we couldn’t be more excited about this casting news.
The news has sent fans of Game of Thrones and the UFC alike into overdrive, speculating and trying to figure out who Conors might play in the show. Rumour has it that Conors will be playing a crew member on Euron Greyjoy’s ship, the Silence. Ominous name right? As fans of the show would know, the reason why the ship is called the Silence is pretty terrifying, as Euron had cut the tongues out of the entire crew. It seems like we probably won’t be hearing much from the famously verbose McGregor in his cameo but we will just have to wait with baited breath to find out.
McGregor already has connections with the Game of Thrones cast as he is known to be a friend of Hafpor Julius Bjornsson who plays The Mountain as well as training at the same gym as Liam Cunningham, best known for his role as Lord Davros.
McGregor famously squared off against The Mountain in a friendly sparring match, which has many of us speculating whether or not we will see a rematch against these two in the upcoming season. Lets hope so.
