The movie features an all-star cast that includes Rooney Mara, Michael Fassbender, Natalie Portman and Ryan Gosling as the protagonists. The chaotic yet enrapturing “modern love story” is set in Austin, Texas and follows “two entangled couples” as they “chase success through a rock ‘n’ roll landscape of seduction and betrayal.”

The movie follows the charming relationship between BV (Gosling) and Faye (Rooney Mara) as they develop their music career from obscurity. Cook (Fassbender) enters BV and Faye’s life as the media magnate who will put the humble twosome’s names in lights, bringing chaos and his waitress girlfriend (Portman) along for the ride.

Terrence Malik films typically explore philosophical concepts that muse on the challenges of a divisive head and heart. One of the most notable elements of Malik’s films is the contemplative voice-overs which provide deeper insight into characters. Song to Song appears to be following in Malik’s characteristic style with Mara’s sweet yet melancholic reflection on the story to be told,

“We thought we could just roll and tumble. Live from song to song, kiss to kiss.”

Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Haley Bennett and Val Kilmer are also cast in the movie. There will also be guest appearances from a plethora of musical acts including Patti Smith, Lykke Li, Florence Welch (of Florence and the Machine), John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols), Iggy Pop, Black Lips and Iron & Wine. Song to Song was announced in 2011 and has undergone many title changes with actors revealing uncertainty as to whether their recorded voice overs would be used in the final the cut.

The film is set to be released in cinemas in March this year, check out the trailer below!
