Defenders Assemble! Netflix releases a glimpse of what’s to come in a revealing but incredibly short teaser trailer.
Netflix released the first footage for it’s mysterious Defenders series on Tuesday, rife with clues hinting about the show’s future. The trailer begins with the four Defenders making a quick escape into an elevator looking a little worse for wear. The entire trailer is shot in black and white from a security camera in the corner of the elevator. The elevator doors close and Jessica Jones spots the camera recording their movements and proceeds to punch its lights out, literally, thus ending the trailer. If you look closely at the timestamp after the video feed cuts out you can see what suspiciously looks like a date, “08: 18: 20: 17:”. It looks like the Defenders can be expected to show up worldwide on August 18th.
Upon closer inspection of the footage fans discovered a hidden link in the form of an IP address leading to a website which can be viewed here. The link leads to a mock website of the fictional newspaper, ‘New York Bulletin’, that exists within the Netflix Marvel universe. The website contains some covers of the newspaper various editions that could allude to the plot of the upcoming series which reveals that an old enemy is going to pose a threat to New York and it’s Defenders.
The current line up of Defenders includes: Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones). These character’s paths will intersect whilst dealing with the repercussions of each of their standalone series’. It is still unclear what draws them together but odds are it will be the ‘typical common enemy threatening the city unless they can all stop it’ business.
Check out the footage below and look out for The Defenders on August 18th.
