With the season 5 premiere of Orange is the New Black dropping on Netflix this Friday, patient fans have been treated to a parody of the cult prison drama by beloved kids show, Sesame Street.
The G-rated ‘Snackfix’ original clip takes our favourite characters from Litchfield Penitentiary to Litchfield Academy, where optimistic new student Piper Snackman is introduced to her classmates. Drama ensues as Piper politely declines the red-haired Russian snack monitor’s (a play on prison cook, Red) proffering of a cookie; instead, introducing the class to a healthier snack alternative… an orange.
This clip may merely be aimed at its primary target demographic; however, we can’t help but think it’s a veiled attempt to persuade adult Netflixers to choose healthier snacks during our next binge.
Orange is the New Black is the latest adult show to be spun into a Sesame Street parody, joining the ranks of Mad Men and Game of Thrones. While fans of the prison comedy-drama aren’t typically tuning into the popular kid’s show, this bite-sized parody should temporarily satiate our cravings until the season premiere on Friday.
Tune into Netflix on Friday 9th June to catch the latest season of Orange is the New Black.
