It’s no secret that the key to a good selfie is lighting. Now, in recognition of the importance of a good selfie, stores are implementing that philosophy into their interior designs.
Stores around the world are now catering to the needs of the avid selfie-taker. Architecture company Sybarite Architects “creates spaces which blend fashion and function” and is responsible for a variety of stores with these new smart-phone camera savvy designs.
Simon Mitchell, one of the creative minds behind Sybarite, states, “Lighting is 50 percent of store design. The right lighting is essential for creating shareable content.” Using this idea, various companies now have stores with giant overhead lights specifically for selfie takers. While artificial light has ruled the design of stores for a long time, natural light is also making an appearance in a similar way. Some of the companies Sybarite has designed for include Joseph, Stefanel and Marni.
No doubt this is both a smart marketing idea and something that will appeal to the modern consumer. Selfies are an important part of a social media driven generation and a soft-sell of brands and products, so it only makes sense that companies should adapt to what’s popular in our culture.
