If you haven’t already heard, 1/3rd (and arguably the glue that combines) The xx, Jamie xx has teamed up with Royal Ballet choreographer Wayne McGregor to curate possibly the coolest contemporary ballet performance to grace this planet. And that’s not even the best news!
The production, based on the artwork-slash-novel by Jonathan Safran Foer (originally, Bruno Schulz’s Street of Crocodiles – it’s a long story) has been transformed into a contemporary dance spectacular by Royal Ballet choreographer Wayne McGregor and Olafur Eliasson, an Icelandic installation extraordinaire.
You’re on the edge of your seat now, right? You’re absolutely dying to hear the news about this novel-turned-artwork-turned-novel-turned-ballet, dubbed with the angelic beats of Jamie xx, yeah? Well, pull your tux outta storage folks because Tree of Codes is taking a break from its Melbourne residency to gift Sydney with a coupla’ nights of pure, unadulterated culture.
Almost as if Foer cut and paste the news from entertainment heaven himself: Tree of Codes is set to pirouette our way for 4 lively performances between 6th-10th of January, all part of the annual Sydney Festival.
Now don’t go assuming that Jamie has simply subbed in a couple of mixes of ‘Intro’ for the dancers to pony around to. The genius producer has apparently run with the whole artwork-on-artwork formula to create a soundtrack that is uniquely Tree of Codes. In layman’s terms, we wholeheartedly give you permission to expect some fresh new Jamie xx beats.
