We’re back with this week’s zeitgeisty updates on what’s heating up and what’s not.
GOING UP
70’s hairstyles
Kaia Gerber’s 70’s glam Halloween costume reminded us that there’s no expiration date on disco-ready groovy hair. Feathered, flat-ironed, choppy layers, or big, glorious afros – we want it all.
Tokyo Street Style
Last month’s Tokyo Fashion Week saw the street style Olympics in full swing, with fashion’s athletes serving up some major inspiration. Sheer slips, bum bags as belts, bumblebee yellow and black colour blocking and lots and LOTS of layering were all on the menu.
Sugar
The latest research suggests sugar may not be the devil after all… Of course, like any health trend, this is very much subject to change, but we will be gorging on extra doughnuts in the meantime.
Festival Style
I really do abhor that term, but it is the only time of year you can wear sequined hotpants with an umbrella hat and the entirety of your jewellery box… Razzle-dazzle ’em.
GOING DOWN
Avocados
Avocados are no longer reigning supreme. Giant, juicy platefuls of figs have thrown nature’s green butter off the breakfast throne. Any ‘clean-eating’ blogger worth her (pink, Himalayan) salt is chomping them down. And if they’re all over the gram… they must be good, right?
Post-Drake blues
Sydneysiders – if you weren’t one of the twenty-thousand that saw Drake in Homebush this week or last, then you well and truly missed out. Melbourne folk, you’ve got a few days left of Drakey-down-under – go get ‘um.
Gender Pay Gap
November 10th came around once more as a grim reminder of gender inequality, marking the day in the calendar when women start working for free. The latest research suggests that for women in their 20s, the gap is widening further. We must all stand together in favour of swift corrective measures.
Sparkly cappuccinos
Unicorns have swallowed the internet and spat it out again smothered in glitter. This has to stop. Now.

Join us next week for what’s going up and what’s going oh so down – in our learned opinion, course.
