In 2015, Mac DeMarco dropped a three-minute long review of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Two and a half minutes of which was dominated by dramatic opera music and close ups of Ja Ja Binks. This time, the Canadian singer/songwriter has an emotional moment deciphering The Last Jedi, the most recent edition to the Star Wars franchise.
The conflicting opinions of the latest installments of Star Wars have been dominating both the internet and my own friendship circle, and Mac DeMarco has only added fuel to the fire by telling a tear jerking tale about his own personal opinion of The Last Jedi.
A lost, confused DeMarco ponders the answers he’ll never know. Questioning his emotions as he and his bassist John have vastly differing opinions of the movie. John is his sidekick, his go to guy, his rock. For Mac to have enjoyed the movie so much and his best mate John to have not at all, it clearly has him shaken.
This is a sobering end to an otherwise extremely impressive Australian tour, which saw Mac playing all around the country with St Jerome’s Laneway Festival. Theres something about his stage presence, he exudes confidence while slamming down Jameson’s and chain smoking cigarettes.
I was lucky enough to catch him at Laneway in Sydney, where he played a number of his older fan favourites and a mix of his best tunes from his latest record This Old Dog. Mac’s got a raw, signature sound down pat with any guitar in hand, and his vocals dish out a soothing ear massage that will please fans across all genres.
It’s up up and away for Mac DeMarco now, as he’s on the road in North and South America for the next couple of months. Fans can only hope that after the tour they’ll be hearing some new material from their sandy haired Canadian sweetheart, as he has a small break between shows in the mid section of the year.
You can catch Mac’s latest Star Wars review below.
Thanks for the heart touching Star Wars analysis, your music is cool too… Let’s hope we get a new review after the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story. Oh, and a new album would be nice too!
