Just because we’re not in Europe doesn’t mean we don’t have Fashion Week Down Under! The schedule for the 24th annual Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week has just been released. The show will kick off on May 12th and run for a total of five days – and you bet we are excited.
Australian designers will showcase their 2020 collections at the Carriageworks in Sydney. The event continues on from its 2016 repositioning as the world’s first Fashion Week focused exclusively on Resort Collections. Here is a list of the confirmed labels so far (get excited!):
- Aje
- Albus Lumen
- Alice McCall
- Bec & Bridge
- Bondi Born
- Double Rainbouu
- Hansen & Gretel
- Justin Cassin
- Lee Matthews
- Leo & Lin
- Mariam Seddiq
- P.E Nation
- Thurley
- We Are Kindred
The week begins with Aje debuting their latest collection on the Sunday. The well-known local label has the honour of opening MBFWA’19, which was not lost on the brand’s founders Edwina Forest and Adrian Norris. Norris states in an interview with Vogue, that landing the opening show is “…a statement of recognition for our brand, but also for our loyal clients, many of whom have been with us for 11 years, and who continue to grow along this journey with us.”
Also gracing us with their more-than-missed presence on the runway will be Australian favourite, Tigerlily. After being absent from MBFWA since 2002, the sustainable label will debut its 2020 Resort Collection in Sydney, showcasing their ethical apparel, swimwear and accessories – we can’t wait!
Like any fashion week, MBFWA is not just for the well-known favourites. Emerging Australian designers will also be debuting their collections in the St. George Next Gen show including Chloe Mottau, Madison Hislop, Benjamin Garg and Brian Huynh. The show aims to help support emerging local designers and expose them to the world of MBFWA.
With Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week still over a month away, we will be back with more info for you to stay up to date with the go on Australia’s premier fashion event.
