“I was no longer interested in the notion of just entertainment. I wanted to engage with you, create frequencies with you, see you and feel you and touch you”.
Musician and visual artist Solange is returning to the Sydney Opera House in January 2020, 18 months after her A Seat At The Table shows charmed audiences at Vivid LIVE.
Pop/R&B innovator Solange announced today that she will perform four exclusive shows at the Opera House, with these performances marking her only Australian shows for the year.
Earlier this year, Solange’s self-produced fourth studio album, When I Get Home, was launched to universal acclaim. A tribute to her hometown of Houston, Texas, Solange released a 33-minute performance art film alongside it, which she also directed.
The new shows will feature a 360° set and unique choreography. The performances will include her latest songs as well as selected hits from her earlier discography.
Critics have praised Solange’s wide-ranging blend of R&B and avant-garde pop. Her shows for Vivid LIVE sold out in minutes. Her shows are celebrated for their imaginative design and striking visuals.
During one Vivid LIVE concert, the singer reminisced about visiting the Opera House as a thirteen year old tourist:
“I took one of those ferries right in front of the Sydney Opera House..To be here this many years later and to fill this space with so much love, so much energy, so many beautiful people … it’s just a phenomenal feeling.”
Ben Marshall, The Opera House’s head of contemporary music said Solange has “never before played an arts institution twice.”
The immersive shows will run from 27-31 January 2020.
