The internet’s boyfriend Keanu Reeves is set to reprise his role as Neo in the upcoming Matrix 4.
Following on from a successful year for Keanu Reeves, Director Lana Wachowski has confirmed that The Matrix 4 is happening, with Reeves attached.
“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now,” Wachowski said.
This film has been speculated for years now, with a version featuring Michael B Jordan almost getting off the ground in 2017. But it seems as if now is the perfect time for the return of this beloved franchise.
“I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.” Wachowski stated.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the franchise and its first film The Matrix. It was a game-changer at the time with studios aiming to replicate its success. Now two decades on, we get to tumble back into the rabbit hole.
This announcement comes off a big year for Keanu Reeves, following major box office hits such as Toy Story 4 and John Wick, Warner Brothers are hoping he can draw in a crowd and reinvigorate this beloved franchise.
The Matrix 4 is set to begin production next year, with a 2021 release expected.
