Rodarte serves us a dreamy portrait series with a side of talented women for their latest Spring/Summer 2020 lookbook.
American luxury brand, Rodarte, is definitely one of the best at executing elegance, femininity, and ethereality in one. With sister designers, Kate and Laura Mulleavy continuing the dreamy themes, Rodarte’s Spring/Summer 2020 lookbook is one for the books.
Shot by Diana Kobayashi Ritch, this season took a complete 180 spin to the Fall 2018 Ready-To-Wear collection as it takes place on a rococo-style garden set with pillars at each side, easels, and an abundance of hydrangeas.
Kate Mulleavy tells Vogue it’s meant to resemble “almost a painting in which nature was invading a space that was slightly manufactured.” Laura Mulleavy goes on to say, “We wanted to create painted portraits.”
“In the end, the images have that quality – not knowing whether or not someone has been painted or photographed.”
Now, if you know Rodarte, you know they always look to their friends and women who inspire them as their muses; and this collection features the likes of up-and-coming actresses, singers, models and many more.
Namely, Gabrielle Union, Kirsten Dunst, King Princess, Alexa Demie, Yalitza Aparicio, Margaret Qualley, Kilo Kish, HAIM, January Jones, Kiernan Shipka, Maya Erskine, Gia Coppola, Maggie Rogers, Helena Howard, Lauren Tsai, and Rowan Blanchard.
This season is all about dresses, all-in-ones, and skirt suits with tulle, puffy sleeves and silhouettes, embellishments, sequins, and ruffles. Interestingly enough, most pieces in the collection were created to be worn comfortably in everyday life and not just for photographs.
Each image is just as surreal, dreamy and elegant as the next. However, some notable mentions go to sister trio HAIM who wore metallic tulle pleated pieces with very deep V necks, King Princess who wore a blue sequinned power suit with matching boots, Riverdale fave Lili Reinhart who posed with a puppy, and Gabrielle Union who posed like a princess.
The whole collection is a fairytale in itself and we’re looking forward to what’s in store for next season.
