Break out your chokers and chains, weirdos: ‘90s cult classic The Craft is getting a long-awaited reboot!
The cast has just been announced for the new remake of The Craft, everyone’s favourite supernatural teen flick. This news is a long time coming, having been in the works as far back as 2015.
It looks to be a truly stellar ensemble of weirdos. The lead role of Hannah will be played by relative newcomer Cailee Spaeny, who you might know from Pacific Rim. We can’t wait to see how she inhabits the role of the high school outcast.
Her fellow coven members will be played by Gideon Adlon of Blockers fame, insta-famous Lovie Simone and Zoey Luna, a trans actress known for a small part on Pose. The new cast will play four friends who turn to witchcraft as a way to deal with the trials and tribulations of high school life.
The film is already much more diverse than its original. The casting of a trans actress in this reboot is a great step forward for trans visibility. Hopefully the film will rewrite some of the damaging tropes about trans people in the horror canon.

The studio, which has already shown its horror reboot chops with 2018’s Halloween, as well as modern classics Insidious, The Purge and Paranormal Activity, released this synopsis:
“When starting at a new school, Hannah befriends Tabby, Lourdes, and Frankie and quickly becomes the fourth member of their clique. Hannah soon learns that she somehow brings great power to the quartet.”
The new Craft will be directed by Zoe Lister-Jones, who released her impressive debut back in 2017 with Band Aid. The film does not have a release date as of yet. Filming has started in July of this year, so we’re predicting a release around Halloween of 2020. How fitting.
