At just 21, Juice WRLD has passed away, leaving behind an unforgettable career.
Chicago hip hop artist, Juice WRLD, was pronounced dead on October 8, 2019 after reportedly suffering a seizure at Chicago’s Midwest Airport. At the age of 21, his passing has brought the entire industry to a standstill.
As per the Chicago Tribune, Juice WRLD, whose given name was Jarad Anthony Higgins, went into cardiac arrest shortly after authorities began searching through the artist’s and the entourages’ luggage.
After being administered with Narcan, a treatment for opioid overdose, the artist was rushed to the Advocate Christ Medical Centre. Higgins was pronounced dead at the hospital at 3:14am, Chicago time, sending shockwaves throughout the world.
While an official cause of death is still pending, early autopsy results rule out the possibility of foul play or tampering.
“There were no signs of foul play and all individuals aboard the aircraft are cooperating with CPD and have given all of their information” said Chicago Police Spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.
Breaking out in 2017 with his chart-topping single, ‘Lucid Dreams’, Juice WRLD faced a meteoric rise in the hip hop world. With humble beginnings on Soundcloud, Higgins soon found himself signing a $3m deal with Interscope Records and collaborating with idols, Future and Travis Scott.
Quickly garnering attention around the industry and from fans, Higgins became a popular name at live shows, touring with superstar, Nicki Minaj, and even performing at Rolling Loud 2019. Travelling between cities, Higgins was returning to Chicago on October 8 for his birthday celebrations when he found out his aircraft had alerted ground officers that there were guns aboard.
According to TMZ, Higgins swallowed percocet pills upon landing as FBI and FAA agents were primed to search the aircraft. While an official cause has yet to be established, those acquainted with the situation believe the pills could have been a contributing factor.
The search uncovered 3 registered guns, 70 pounds of marijuana and codeine on board the aircraft.
Leading the second wave of Soundcloud, Juice WRLD was always vocal about his battles with prescription drugs. Affecting his relationships, Higgins seemed to be avoiding drugs and attempting sobriety recently.
