Takashi Murakami has announced a long-awaited collaboration with Hello Kitty. He has teased fans on Instagram by releasing an image of the loved Japanese icon sitting alongside a new Panda character in Murakami-esque design. The caption revealed no specific details and no further announcements have been made.
This announcement follows the long collaborative list of Murakami’s work, who has worked with many famous brands such as Kaws, Supreme, Louis Vuitton, Billie Eilish x UNIQLO UT. Hello Kitty is no stranger to collaborations as the beloved icon has also famously worked with brands such as Doc Martens, Levi’s, Converse, and BAPE.
Murakami worried many fans when he announced that Kaikai Kiki was facing bankruptcy due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, he has announced an upcoming film series to document the artistic and financial struggles of Kaikai Kiki and as an artist in a pandemic context.
His fun and quirky designs show that his art is not limited to the high-end and can be enjoyed by anyone of all ages. Many fans are anticipating the drop in lieu of the bankruptcy scare.
