Nothing says Merry Christmas and ‘bugger off COVID’ quite like a special album soon to be gifted to us by our alt queen, Lana Del Rey.
In a special announcement via IG Live, Del Rey shared that she would be releasing an album of ‘American standards and classics’ later this year. The covers album is set to be released prior to the highly anticipated Chemtrails Over The Country Club, which was originally set to release in September 2020 but received COVID-related delays.
“Sixteen week delay on the vinyl process, because I can’t get the record plants to open until March 5,” Del Rey explained.
While we unfortunately won’t be getting the Chemtrails album until at least spring 2021, fans won’t be left waiting for long.
Del Rey said: “In the meantime, I’m going to give you a digital record of American standards and classics for Christmas. So there’s that.”
Speaking of covers, the Norman Fucking Rockwell artist recently covered Liverpool FC’s anthem for their new documentary. Yes, you did read that correctly.
While it’s definitely strange pairing Lana Del Rey and a football club in one sentence, Del Rey has been a Liverpool supporter for a while now.
“I was introduced to Liverpool FC by my manager, Ben, whose mood is dependent on the Liverpool results…The people in Liverpool are so friendly and the stadiums really impressive.”
The snippet she shared on Instagram proves she really can take on anything.
She brought her chilling and cool vocals to the track which was originally a show tune from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s 1945 musical Carousel, later becoming a number one hit in 1963 for the Liverpudlian band Gerry and the Pacemakers- gaining traction with football fans.
With all that 2020 has thrown at us, at least Lana Del Rey is giving us a thing or two to look forward to.
