The main headliners for Coachella 2022 and 2023 have been announced, and Frank Ocean is set to headline.
Following a tumultuous two years of cancellations, the Coachella Music Festival will take place in 2022. While a full lineup is yet to be released, Travis Scott and Rage Against The Machine will be performing. Co-founder Paul Tollett has also confirmed that Frank Ocean will be the main headliner for 2023 due to unavailability in 2022. Tollett told the Los Angeles Times that even though the act was so far away, he wanted to make sure that the fans were able to see everybody that they wanted to see in the initial 2020 lineup.
The performance by Frank Ocean is highly anticipated, following his first Coachella appearance in 2012 and subsequent festival performance at the 2017 FYF Festival. While he had performed at an opening show at Melbourne’s Festival Hall in 2013, and was set to perform at Splendour in the Grass and other festivals in Sydney and Melbourne, he had to cancel due to a tear in his vocal chords. He has yet to perform again in Australia.
Tickets for Coachella 2022 went on sale in June. Despite the lack of a performance lineup, however, all 125 000 tickets for each weekend sold out within hours. The event is set to take place in Indio, California.
Tollett, who does not give interviews often, agreed to be interviewed in order to give the exclusive lineup announcements. He also expressed his hopes and fears for the future of live performances. He did not want to announce Coachella until it was absolutely certain it could go ahead.
“I don’t want to force it too soon. I’d rather wait. You’ll never remember that you had to wait, but you’ll remember if you went to a really bad event.”
