The recent development of space travel seems to be an experience only attainable by billionaires. As they rush to pay millions for a brief trip, we can’t help but wonder when we can see space. Now, there is now a way that regular people can experience space and this time, even from the comfort of their own homes. Thanks to the fast-developing technology of virtual reality, those interested can take a look at space for themselves.

The new series from TIME, titled Space Explorers: The ISS Experience, is a close-up of what it is like to visit the International Space Station (ISS). The series follows and features real-life astronauts including, David Saint-Jacques, Anne McClain, Nick Hague, Christina H. Koch, Jessica U. Meir, Luca Parmitano, Hazza Al Mansouri and Andrew “Drew” Morgan.

High Tech Equipment

The series, which is launched in collaboration with NASA, offers an extensive multiplatform and immersive experience that uses custom-built virtual reality cameras tailored to be engineered to operate in zero-gravity. What is special about this is that you will soon be able to join them as Felix & Paul Studios’ new Outer Space Camera captured a real spacewalk in an immersive 3D, 360-degree virtual reality format.

According to Series’ executive producer Johnathan Woods,

“Capturing the Earth in stereoscopic 3D, 360-degree format from space, outside the space station, has never been attempted until now. It’s exciting and surreal to see this happening, knowing that the dream for this ambitious project started over five years ago in 2015.”

Over 200 hours of filmed footage from the astronauts capturing their lives in space. The series gives audiences an inside look at a once in lifetime perspective of Earth. It also sheds light on the life of astronauts in space.

Each episode will showcase an aspect of the ISS and environment in space. The first two episodes are currently released on the Oculus Store with two more coming later within the year. Félix Lajeunesse, the studio co-founder, says what was captured today “in the vacuum of space” will be integrated into the upcoming third and fourth episodes of Space Explorers: The ISS Experience, available in VR for Rift.

The two episodes are set to drop later this year. Currently, the first two are available as a fully immersive VR experience on the Oculus Store.
