DC Shoes have released a collection inspired by and to honour the work of seminal artist, Andy Warhol.

On April 15th 2022 DC Shoes released their collection with The Andy Warhol Foundation, called Warhol x DC: Collisions. The collection features custom footwear and apparel which is meant to reflect the artistic legacy of the preeminent American artists of the 20th century. 

DC Shoes states in a release,

“As a brand founded on the idea of “Collisions,” we adopted a unique approach to the project by creating four themed capsules — STRENGTH & FRAGILITY, LIFE & DEATH, SAINTS & SINNERS and WAR & PEACE.” 

These four capsules or mini-collections, aim to create four unique narratives, which are combined with some of Warhol’s most iconic works. The collection as a whole aims to bring to life the artistic skills of Andy Warhol and honour the legacy he has left behind. 

Andy Warhol – American Icon

Andy Warhol was an Artist, Producer and film director who was responsible for spearheading the visual arts movement of pop art.

Warhol’s works were interested in the relationship between artistic expression, advertising and the celebrity culture of the 1960s. His works took on many forms and used many materials such as painting, silkscreening, photography, film and sculptures.

Andy Warhol’s top 3 most notable works are Marilyn Dyptich (1962), Campbell’s Soup Cans (1962) and Cow Series (1966). Cow Series (1966) is seen in the DC Shoes Collection along with other Warhol works that may not be as well known, but capture Warhol as an artist.

Sadly Andy Warhol passed away on the 22nd of February 1987 at the age of 58,  he left behind a significant legacy and a lasting impression on the Art world.

This Mini-Collection Capsule from the Warhol X DC: Collisions collection. This Capsule leans into an ironic collision between the hard-hitting nature of skateboarding and andy Warhol’s Iconic Fragile Print.

 

This mini collection also features the input of DC Pro, Evan Smith who is a Pittsburgh Skateboarder. This capsule features three items, and a fourth will be added soon.

This capsule is inspired by Warhol’s lightest and darkest works collide to form an exciting new narrative.
