The Cousins Beach gang is back together again! Season two of Amazon Prime’s original series, “The Summer I Turned Pretty” is out now – here is what we know so far.
***Warning: spoilers ahead!***
Premiering on July 14th, fans can finally see how main character, Belly Conklin (Lola Tung) is handling her messy love triangle with brothers Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno).
“The Summer I Turned Pretty” is based on the trilogy of the same title by Jenny Han. This season, the rom-com series follows the second novel, “It’s Not Summer Without You”. Right now, the first three episodes of the season are available, giving fans enough screen time to get through the week.
Season one closes with a bittersweet ending. Jeremiah finds out that his mother, Susannah has been diagnosed with cancer and that his brother, Conrad, knew all along.
The season 1 finale shows a heartwarming kiss between Belly and Conrad, however the love triangle forms as Belly and Jeremiah are just starting to give dating a go. This cliffhanger left fans eager for more and the feud between team Conrad and team Jeremiah to spark online.
The Wait is Over!
Season two of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” follows a couple months on from these plot points. The first scene opens to the sad realisation that Susannah has tragically passed and the Cousins Beach gang has broken up.
Seen through flashbacks, we learn that the Fisher brothers are not on speaking terms with Belly and her brother Steven as a result of the steamy yet messy love triangle.
All the characters are struggling with their own issues too. Belly is failing her classes and has lost her captaincy to her volleyball team. Jeremiah is still bitter over losing Belly to his own brother, Conrad is beginning to skip classes, Steven is getting ready to leave to Princeton, and Belly and Steven’s mother, Laurel, is struggling with promoting her new novel that is a memoir about Susannah.
Just when things couldn’t get any worse, the brothers find out that their aunt Julia is making plans to sell their beach house. The beach house that holds all their Summer memories and their childhood with Belly’s family. It is also one of the last pieces of their mother they have considering the many Summers spent there with her.
It is clear that this season will focus on grief and the healing of the character’s relationships with each other. It’s time to bring out that box of tissues!
What to Expect from the Characters this Time
In an interview on the Today Show, Lola Tung (Belly Conklin), Christopher Briney (Conrad Fisher), and Gavin Casalegno (Jeremiah Fisher) talk about what viewers can expect from “The Summer I Turned Pretty” this season.
“I would say the characters experience new things as you do when you grow up, and are sort of learning how to deal with these new feelings and changes in their relationships and dealing with family and love,” says Lola.
Christopher adds that, “in relation to the first season, the next season grows up with these characters and because they have experienced a lot of big things in their life up to this point. Like, bigger than they had going into the first season. So the tone (of season two) sort of goes along with them.”the s
The rest of this season’s episodes will be released weekly on Amazon Prime Video, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for our beloved characters.
