A second Converse x Kendrick collaboration is coming. Kendrick Lamar and his company, PgLang, are set to drop their own version of the iconic Converse Chuck 70s.
Adding some mischief to the release, fans do not have a choice of colourway. All shipments of shoes are entirely random, with buyers finding out what design they purchased when they open the box.
“In an age of choice abundance where decision paralysis awaits us at every turn, Converse and PgLang are letting luck decide which pair is right for you,”
explains a press release.
The shoe brings some subtle differences to the shoe. It boasts a mismatching midsole, red piping on the right, beige or navy on the left/right, and beige on the left / right.
The converse logo is refreshed with a cream colouring, together with PgLang’s branding. The insoles and outsoles of the show are also marked with PgLang’s mission statement: “mission of transcending language.”
One striking difference is the eyelets. Instead of Converse’s original circle eyelet this collab is fitted with hiking-style eyelets for users to grip their laces around.
The Grammy Award-winning rapper co-founded PgLang with filmmaker and frequent collaborator Dave Free in 2020. Along with the launch, Free explains a statement, “In this overstimulated time, we are focused on cultivating raw expression from grassroots partnerships”.
Lamar isn’t new to shoe collabs, however. Prior to the launch of PgLang, he joined forces with Reebok and Nike; releasing an ultra-popular take on the classic Cortez model.
Set to drop on November 2 at 1PM EST, the converse x PgLang collaboration launches at Converse and pgLang’s websites for $100.
