Daniel Avakian Shows Us Some Shoulder

Daniel Avakian unveiled his Resort 17’ Collection, with an emphasis on hardworking wardrobe pieces, perfect for almost every occasion. His functional gowns and carefully curated dresses presented an interesting perspective on the future of resort fashion.

Avakian, nominated as an Australian finalist in the 2016/2017 International Woolmark Prize, showcased his collection on the Carriageworks runway with wearable and functional pieces as the focus of his collection. Avakian reveals a new direction for the brand, through his effortless silhouettes and minimalist styling.

Monochrome was the typical theme of the renowned designer, but was paired with ‘fairy floss pink’ and ‘golden yellow’, introducing some fun and sunshine to the silk resort collection. Silk gowns, liquid lame slips and chiffon robes waltzed down the runway, whilst boxer robes and wide-legged trousers brought a masculine edge to the collection.

The recurring theme, we noticed throughout the collection, was Avakian’s ability to expose the shoulders and give the collection an overall resort feel. The designer paid homage to the 90s through his bias cut slip dresses, which he claims to be the ‘dress of the moment’. Silk slips, suit jackets, spaghetti straps and leather loafers were featured throughout the showcase, providing an easy-to-wear, summery collection.

Front row guests included: Edwina McCann, Christine Centenera, Alison Veness-McGourty, Carmen Hamilton, Sara Donaldson, Lee Oliveira, Kaitlyn Ham, Nikki Phillips & Anna Heinrich.
