Supreme is taking designer accessories to a whole new level in their latest AW17 Lookbook. From exercise mats and hair clippers to inflatable blimps, collapsible shovels and chopsticks, Supreme is confusing a lot of people, including us.
We live in a world where designers can slap their logo on anything from a pair of track pants to simple white tee’s and all of a sudden the price is a couple of thousand dollars more than before. Not to name names but Louis Vuitton and Chanel, we’re looking at you. But Supreme is known for catering to the skateboarding, hip hop and punk rock cultures of our youth which leads us to question Supreme’s intentions in creating branded chopsticks, hair clippers and exercise mats.
Let’s be real. While the retail price is not out for these products, we know they ain’t cheap. Is there anything really wrong with plain wooden chopsticks that you can take home for free from the local sushi train? Will the food taste better if it came from the graceful sticks of Supreme? Probably not. Will multiplying the price by ten, make the product ten times better? I don’t think so. But hey, I might grab an extra expensive collapsible shovel because my trusty spade from Bunnings just isn’t cool enough. It’s a hard pass from me and all of us here at FIB.
