In late 2019 Glass Animals are making a comeback with a new single with American rapper Denzel Curry. The band are surprising Aussie fans with two upcoming intimate shows.
In July 2018, Glass Animals’ drummer Joe Seaward had a serious bicycle accident when he was hit by a truck in Dublin. Seaward’s accident and recovery resulted in the band cancelling their remaining tour dates for the rest of the year.
Since then it has been a substantial quiet 2019 for them because of Seaward’s recovery. This period of waiting and patience has only made the British psychedelic indie band from Oxford feeling stronger than ever. With front man Dave Bayley putting a statement earlier this year about Seward’s remarkable recovery the band are excited to get back doing what their love.
a year ago my best bud joe couldn’t walk or speak…much less play the drums. but look at him now. thanks to everybody…

Over the past few months, the four piece have been busy making new music. The latest news from the band has officially detailed their collaboration with American rapper Denzel Curry. The collaboration has both artists feeling proud to release the upcoming single ‘Tokyo Drifting’ on Wednesday the 13th of November. Fans have been given a sneak peak via two teaser videos of the new song recently posted through the band’s twitter page.
The new single will be fresh material from Glass Animals since their 2016 album How To Be A Human Being. The sophomore album which was inspired by the success of their 2014 debut album Zaba featured heavier electronic instrumentals.
How To Be A Human Being was perceived as a an anthology concept album where each song tells the story of people the band had met on tour. Critics were opened to praise the album’s whimsicality in emotive expression and how the band’s sound invoked a sense of wonder.
The collaboration with Curry on ‘Tokyo Drifting’ can only have fans guessing what sounds will be new and different from the band since their three year gap of their second album.
For Curry, he has had a successful string of collaborations this year. In September he teamed up with British rapper Slowthai on ‘Psycho’ and recently appeared with fellow American rapper Wiki on the song ‘Grim’ with rapper Lil Ugly Mane.
Glass Animals expected to play two intimate Australian shows in November
Glass Animals were last seen in Australia during the Falls Festival in 2017-2018. Since then they have accumulated a big fan base in Australia due to the critical acclaim on their second album and featured airplay on Triple J. The band are keen to perform in front for their Aussie fans with two intimate gigs this month in Melbourne and Sydney.

[…] With Seaward fully recovered and firmly behind the drums again, the band have been letting out all their pent up energy, playing show after show, from Sydney to Manchester. With an impressive backlog of body movers that they delicately cut into their own indie pop niche, Glass Animals rode the success of 2016’s ‘How to be a Human Being’ like a wave that would never crash. The first single from their upcoming album, ‘Tokyo Drifting’ hit number 34 in the hottest 100 of 2019. Full of the classic bouncy beats and referential samples, the song was a statement that the band aren’t going anywhere, even recruiting Denzel Curry to bring his unmatched flow to the single, and give the middle finger styling it permeates.
