The royal family is a hot topic in world news today. The focus, is on Meghan Markle.
Markle, an American actress, is best known as Rachel Zane in the legal drama Suits.
In 2018, she wed Prince Henry Charles Albert David of Wales.
At the time, the couple’s union looked like a move towards the modernisation of the royal family’s image. Recently, the pair sat down with Oprah Winfrey to discuss their marriage and living life in the public eye.
What Was disclosed During the Oprah Interview?
It’s a Girl!
Meghan and Harry revealed the gender of their second child to be a girl. No more kids are on the cards for the pair after the bub arrives this summer.
“To have a boy a boy then a girl — what more can you ask for?” said Harry. “Now we’ve got our family and we’ve got four of us.”
The Couple Were Faced With Racial Prejudice.
According to the former duke and duchess of Sussex, they’d felt slighted by comments regarding the colour of their unborn child’s skin.
Markle made an emotional confession regarding her mental health.
The pressure of royal life had become unbearable for her. Over recent years, she had become overwhelmed with the pressure of royal duties.
“I just didn’t want to be alive anymore,” she told Oprah. She elaborated, explaining that she felt to be a victim of “character assassination” and had felt driven to the point of potential self-harm.
In a perplexing way, Princess Diana’s time spent within the Royal family shared similarities with Meghan’s experience. Diana had a serene public image, burdened by underlying feelings of worthlessness and self-harm.
In the U.K., 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem of some kind each year. This statistic makes it hard to imagine that any member of the royal family suffering from a mental illness would be alienated by the public.
Archie, the couple’s son, was not given a royal title.
The resemblance that the child holds to his father as a child is striking.
Meghan was surprised to find out that Archie would not be named a prince and would not receive security from the palace. This is contrary to his cousins George and Louis whom both hold royal titles.
Meghan and Harry were not paid for the Oprah Winfrey Interview
CBS reportedly paid Oprah’s Harpo Productions a licensing fee of between $7 million and $9 million to air the special. Meghan and Harry were not paid to take part in the interview. The interview with Oprah delved deeply into the reasons why the couple decided to leave England and step away from royal duties.
