Jamie Spears is finally stepping down from his role as his daughter’s conservator.
Following several legal battles between the father and daughter, Jamie Spears will step down from his role as conservator of his daughter’s estate. Court documents revealed the news last Thursday, bringing an end to the 13-year long conservatorship.
The documents read: “Even as Mr Spears is the unremitting target of unjustified attacks, he does not believe that a public battle with his daughter over his continuing service as her conservator would be in her best interests.
“By her own admission, Ms Spears is strong and stands up for what she wants. Mr Spears has tried to do everything in his power to accommodate Ms Spears’s wishes. Whether regarding her personal life, family, or career, while fulfilling his duties and obligations as conservator (and) protecting her from others seeking to take advantage of her”.
Supporters of the #FreeBritney movement have seen these comments as very contradictory to Britney Spear’s personal statements on his behaviour. However, they are also glad that he is abandoning the role he has in her life.
Mathew Rosengart, Britney Spears’ lawyer, released a statement that the decision was “a major victory for Britney Spears and another step toward justice”. They were also pleased that her father and his lawyer were to remove themselves from the abusive arrangement.
Britney Spears has not released any comments since the announcement but will reappear in court in September to have her requests heard. She is currently in the care of Jodi Montgomery who handles her medical and personal affairs.
