House of Gucci is set to be a hit at the box office, but Tom Ford is not impressed.
The new film starring Lady Gaga and Adam Driver recounts the true story of Patrizia Reggiani and Maurizio Gucci’s infamous marriage and the latter’s murder. The movie recounts Reggiani’s involvement in her husband’s assassination, later being convicted of his murder in 1998. Based on the non-fiction novel by Sara Gay Forden with the same name, the film is set to be a huge hit at the box office.
However, fashion designer Tom Ford expressed his discontent after screening the film saying he was “deeply sad for several days”.
“The film is … well, I’m still not quite sure what it is exactly, but somehow I felt as though I had lived through a hurricane when I left the theatre.”
Ford too has delved into the world of film after directing A Single Man in 2009 and Nocturnal Animals in 2016. The fashion mogul did not hold back his critique for House of Gucci, stating he “laughed out loud” at the Ridley Scott film.
The Guccis React
The Gucci family has also released a statement saying the film is “ignorant and insensitive”, and inaccurately portrays those involved.
“This is extremely painful from a human point of view and an insult to the legacy on which the brand is built today.”
House of Gucci is set to be released in Australia on New Year’s Day and is so far receiving mixed reviews around the world.
