In October 2021, Billie Eilish was named the youngest solo headliner in the history of Glastonbury. The latest lineup now includes artists Kendrick Lamar, Sir Paul McCartney and Doja Cat.
Kendrick Lamar makes his third appearance at Glastonbury this year, following Coachella and Bonnaroo festivals. The rapper is also making an appearance at Rolling Loud Miami 2022, which includes Kanye West and Future on the bill. His next stop is in Milan, Italy for the Summer Festival, where fans can hear a brand new set of music from the rapper.
It has been five years since the release of his 2011 mixtape, DAMN. This year, Kendrick’s festival appearances are coinciding with the release of a highly anticipated new album. Lamar makes his debut at the festival on Sunday night.
Out of eighty-nine other names announced so far, fourty-eight are females or female-inclusive acts. In 2020, festival co-organiser Emily Eavis told the BBC that ” Our future has to be 50/50″.
Post-Cancellation Lineups
After two years of cancellations, Glastonbury finally makes its return in June, with McCartney as a Saturday night headliner. It marks his second time upon the Pyramid stage, after a 2004 performance with Pulitzer-winning rapper Lamar. Both artists are back on the bill after the cancellation of the 2020 festival – marking its 50th year anniversary. Taylor Swift was also on the 2020 bill but, as yet, does not appear to have been rebooked to perform.
McCartney teased the announcement news on Twitter via Wordle. In six squares rather than the traditional five, he hints at the word “Glasto”. He gives the number 121, writing 25/6 in the space which is used to indicate how many attempts a player to correctly guess a word. Instead, it displays the date of his performance. When he tweets the clue, on 24 February, it was 121 days until 25 June, which he is due to play.
Billie Eilish makes her second appearance at Worthy Farm in Somerset along with Diana Ross, following Dolly Parton, Lionel Ritchie and James Brown in the “teatime legend” slot on Sunday.
Coachella’s pop presence is strong with Rodrigo, Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, Charli XCX and Caroline Polachek all making appearances. Also on the list is Herbie Hancock, Phoebe Bridgers, Sam Fender, Turnstile, TLC, Wet Leg and Yves Tumor making debut appearances.
