Australian indie rock stars, Spiderbait, are back with some never before heard tracks.
It has been almost a decade since Spiderbait released their last album. Now they come out with a special album, dedicated to lead bass player and singer – Janet English.
English comments on the wild ride she has had with her two oldest friends,
“Music is brilliant and creative; torturous at times and exhilarating at others. What an absurd, accidental, and satisfying journey it’s been for the three of us”.
New But Old – A Timeless Piece
One of the key influential songs in their new album ‘Sounds In The Key Of J’ is “My Car’s A UFO”. It seems the band has recovered an old flame from 2001, which has been collecting dust over the past decade. Lucky for us, the time has finally arrived for the iconic trio to reveal an old treasure. It seems the old track sparked inspiration when found on an old Mix CD – who knew they still existed.

Love, Passion and Dedication
In light of the announcement, Spiderbait were able to shed light on some of the questions fans have been dying to know about the new album.
The group has a strong connection with each other and the music they choose to create. They are 100% prepared to have high energy throughout the tour for their unique and loving fanbase.
In case we missed the memo, “Sounds In The Key of J” is their second album to be released in a three-year plan. Their first, is the re-release of “Ivy & The Big Apples”, which was for the group’s 25 year anniversary last year. The third and final is in the works for next year!
The Inside Scoop
Even though this album is inspired by past music there is no denying that the album will carry lots of energy. A lot of love and passion went into the creation and it is coming from a unique place within the group. The process has been reflective and Spiderbait are confident that, as Whitt guitarist for the group comments,
“Good songs are good songs in any era”.
When it comes to the editing process the aspect which took up most of their time was how they wanted to sequence the tracks. Since the original works were created a decade ago, it was important that the album reflected a fresh experience for fans. Being able to highlight Janet English’s songs in the correct way was a top priority.
Whitt can only talk highly of fellow musician, English. It is clear of the fun-loving, yet respectable relationship the trio have when working together. Whitt has no problem describing how English is a natural talent,
“She’s a smart ass lyricist and vocalist, melodies just seem to pour out of her, I don’t know how she does it. It’s annoying”.
The group is committed to their fans and try to avoid recording anything that isn’t fully completed. Unless their hearts are fully into it, they don’t let expectations get in the way of the process. The real value for the trio is feeling that what they are creating is the correct road to take within their gut.
Lucky for us this album made the cut! The band couldn’t be happier that their old tracks are making their way to their fan’s ears. The anticipation for the tour is evident. Spiderbait are excited to get back out there after the bumpy road of the past couple of years!
