DISNEY PARTNERS WITH GIVENCHY FOR 101 DALMATIONS CAPSULE

Disney and the French fashion brand Givenchy have partnered again to create a new collection featuring famous and not-so-famous characters.

It is not the first time that Disney has partnered with luxury brands. It previously collaborated with Coach, Gucci, and Stella McCartney.

In this collection named “The Wonder Gallery,” people could spot characters such as Bambi, Pingo, and Perdita (101 Dalmatians), Elsa and Olaf (Frozen), and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

The brand’s creative director, Matthew M. Williams, said he is a big fan of Disney. He used to visit Disneyland often when growing up in California and is now taking his kids to Disneyland Paris.

An Animated Short

The most recent addition to the collection is the 101 Dalmatians capsule. It comes with a custom animated short overseen by Disney legend Eric Goldberg. Goldberg is known for being the lead animator for the Genie in Aladdin, Hercules, and the Co-director of Pocahontas. Givenchy says in the description of the animation: “The animation culminates at Givenchy on the Avenue George V where the dalmatians, accompanied by Matthew M. Williams and supermodel Kate Moss, admire the collection display in the store windows. Their moment of bliss is briefly interrupted by a surprise appearance from the notorious Cruella De Vil, but she quickly flees after Pongo and Perdita stand their ground with a protective growl”.

Eric Goldberg said about the animation: “To have the opportunity to tell a story and create new animation with the characters from 101 Dalmatians, through the imaginative and playful lens of the House of Givenchy, was an absolute dream.”

The Line

This line focuses on traditional animations’ simplicity and beauty by representing primarily silhouettes. The choice of characters also represents the focus on tradition. Indeed, both Bambi and 101 Dalmatians are classic films; both supervised by Walt Disney himself. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is also at the root of Disney’s history as it predates Mickey Mouse. It is great to see some light shed on this lesser-known character.

There is a women’s line and a men’s line. There are also accessories, including wallets, caps, bob hats, a crossbody bag, and a backpack featuring the castle.
The ready-to-wear items will cost $400.
