Former fashion writer Thakoon Panichgul has just reached a major milestone in his career – his label Thakoon has been a notable part of the industry for ten years. The designer has chosen to celebrate this feat in true designer style by officially launching a handbag line.
While reaching a ten-year career anniversary is notable for anyone, it can be seen to be even more significant for Thakoon, who saw some dark days throughout his career that almost saw the end of his label. “When the crash hit around 2007, some stockists were thinking of discontinuing business with us; it was brutal out there for so many designers,” the designer has said. “But we managed to turn it around, and today those same stockists are some of our strongest customers. So to make it to 10 years really is something for me.”

The designer has managed to achieve countless victories throughout his ten years, despite acknowledging that a decade is really only a short period of time in the fashion world. In addition to his eponymous luxury label, he has a Thakoon Addition collection sold around the world, and has collaborations with Target and Gap. Michelle Obama also frequents his pieces.
For the meantime, Barney’s sells the handbag line exclusively, consisting of a range of styles from cross-body bags, duffels and shoppers, but the designer will make the line available from other distributors come Spring.
