Queen Latifah’s Next Mission In Life

Grammy award and Golden Globe award-winning singer & actress Queen Latifah reveals that she’s ready to take on her next role…motherhood!

She said in an interview by closerweekly.com that she had been, “always thinking about becoming a mother” and that “being a mom is probably the most unselfish thing you can do.” When questioned further about her new mission in life the 44 year old actress/musician/pop icon responded simply by saying: “It doesn’t matter to me. I just really want to be there for them through adulthood and for the rest of their lives.”

Born Dana Elaine Owens on March 18, 1970, she started her rise by blasting onto the charts from day one. Her debut album ‘All Hail To The Queen’ sold more than one million copies and if that wasn’t enough the single ‘U.N.I.T.Y’ earned Queen Latifah her first Grammy Award, as far as “The Queen” was concerned though it wasn’t.

Rapper, record producer and actress Latifah, known for her roles in Last Holiday, Chicago, Set It Off and of course Bone Collector is a woman who makes no apologies for her successes. Every so often however as her Muslim name (Latifah) suggests her “delicate and sensitive” side comes across.

From early on in her career she took to business as well as she took to the mic, opening a video store on the ground floor of the apartment she lived in. Record production would be her next call to fame.

1991 saw her become CEO of Flavor Unit Records and after signing 17 other rap artists the ever growing success of Latifah didn’t leave room for much else. That is of course until she broke into the world of acting.

Her big screen debut came soon after Spike Lee cast her in Jungle Fever (1991) which saw her performing alongside the likes of Halle Berry, Wesley Snipes and Spike Lee himself. But perhaps her most acclaimed film role came in the form of the 2002 film Chicago for which she earned an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actress. An accolade I’m sure was in no small part due to her musical talent as well as acting ability.

That set the scene for 2007 when she again dropped another bomb on audiences by showcasing her musical flair as Motormouth Maybelle in Hairspray with John Travolta.

Most recently in 2013 she made yet another commitment to her busy schedule in the form of the daytime television talk show ‘The Queen Latifah Show’. Queen Latifah also serves as a spokesperson for CoverGirl cosmetics. Not to mention has her own line with the company ‘The Queen Collection’. All in a day’s work for Latifah. It seems she’s conquered everything except her newest challenge.

Delicate maybe; empowered definitely. A strong candidate for motherhood, wouldn’t you say?
