An Outlanderish Event

It was definitely a “Tartan Affair” to remember. To celebrate the popular Outlander series upcoming mid-season return last week, the world premiere took place alongside an exclusive costume exhibit at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York. The whole world seemed to be in attendance with the cast as it was streamed live to millions of people.

Online interaction between cast/crew and fans formed a major part of the event with a silver plate of selfies and video clips. “We loved the idea of offering our fans around the country unfiltered, premium access to the red carpet with the cast and crew, even if they aren’t in New York,” explained Alison Hoffman, Executive Vice President of Marketing for Starz. No wonder this series has captured so many hearts and continues to do so.

If you’re an outlander yourself and don’t know about the series, it’s about a 1940s woman named Claire (Caitriona Balfe) who accidentally time travels back to 1740s Scotland during a time of conflict and is caught smack bang in the middle of it. Claire has to find ways to survive whilst encountering culture, and, uh, generational clashes with the locals.

The costumes at the exhibit provoke a sense of nostalgia and patriotism and were designed by Terry Dresbach. He stressed on the importance of accuracy when designing the clothes, according to HitFix, but still manages to mix old and… older styles up.

The latter half of Outlander’s first season started on April 4th but it’s not too late to start watching and channel your inner sexy Scot.
