Missing From The Met Gala

The Met Gala, the annual fundraising event held in New York aimed to benefit the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute is without a staple star this year, and as it’s regarded to be one of the most exclusive social events for the fashion world, being without a certain someone hasn’t gone without notice.

One of our favourites, Gisele Bündchen, who is typically a regular to this event will not be in attendance this year, and for what better reason than to be in South Korea for the Chanel Cruise?

The superstar supermodel addressed her whereabouts via her Facebook account, writing:

“Watching from the side lines…. A different perspective.”

Bündchen and her hunk of a husband, New England Patriots star, Tom Brady, have been in attendance to the red carpet every year since 2008.  That’s seven scorching years for the pair to have been gracing the event with their presence.

What is perhaps the question on everyone’s lips is how Chanel (although a highly regarded powerhouse in the industry) was able to snag away the glamourous girl from arguably the pinnacle of fashion events.

Although we may not have the exact answer to that per se, what we do know is that as of late the Brazilian beauty hasn’t been shy about taking hold of the reins in her career.

Earlier this year, Bündchen shocked the world by announcing her retirement from the runway – so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that she is switching up her schedule on her own terms now.

With the theme of this year’s Met Gala event being ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’, we would have loved to have seen Bündchen’s take on it, but we still have the years past to reminisce on her gorgeous attire. And, you know us, of course we’ll take this opportunity to.

Kicking off her appearance to the event in 2008 with this stunning Versace ensemble, Bündchen appropriates the theme ‘Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy’ this year by being everyone’s fashion inspiration.

In 2011 Bündchen looked nothing short of a million dollars.  The theme was ‘Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty’ and she made us fall in love with her all over again as she floated around in a red dress completely and utterly made for the red carpet.

No wonder her name is splashed all over the best dressed lists year after year.  In last year’s 2014 event themed ‘Charles James: Beyond Fashion’, Bündchen did not disappoint. The fitted black gown with a plunging neck line is sure to stay an iconic look in our memories for years to come!

We are certainly saddened by her no show this year, but we can always cross our fingers for next years Met.
