Clapton celebrated his 70th birthday on May 3, following his actual birthday on March 30 at Madison Square Garden. Among the many guests, John Mayer joined in on the fun and performed alongside him.
The now seventy-year-old still has his incredible guitar moves and was even accompanied by Stevie Ray Vaughan’s brother, Jimmie Vaughan. Clapton called Vaughan from the audience to perform “Before You Accuse Me” in an acoustic set. Guests’ attending the night included Derek Trucks, Doyle Bramhall Jr. and Katy Perry, who was spotted sitting alongside John Mayer in the audience.
Bramhall and Trucks joined Clapton on-stage for “Let It Rain” followed by an encore with all of the performers. Together, they covered an amazing rendition of Joe Crocker’s “High Time We Went”, and the evening blossomed into a memorable event for the guitar legend.
Clapton addressed the crowd and thanked them for helping him celebrate. He was humble and gracious, everything a person can aspire to be in their seventies.
