Instead of throwing a big birthday bash this year, Canadian singer-songwriter Mac DeMarco drove upstate New York and bought a small rowboat from a kind old man.
On this very boat, DeMarco will later perform a stripped-down acoustic of a Another One‘s “No Other Heart,” under the slow setting sun of Queens. The video features the singer jamming with his keyboard afloat the waters of a bay near his home in Far Rockaway.
“I always get like kinda like the birthday blues, so instead of like seeing anybody or like even calling my family I just drove up to upstate New York… and bought a boat off this old guy instead, and then took for a night time cruise, and went to bed. And that was the birthday this year – not bad, not bad,” said DeMarco.
Watch the quirky and slightly melancholy cover for NPR, with nothing but the jizz-jazzing Mac lazily floating along the bay waters glistening under the clouded setting sun, below.
