and Dan Simmons. It focuses on the story of Willie Flambeaux, a collections agent who is also a werewolf, and Randi Wade, a private investigator. Together they discover a dark secret about some grisly murders that have been happening. Hmm, perhaps werewolves are behind it all?

novella won that year’s World Fantasy Award and has been adapted into a comic as well as a graphic novel. In some corners it is regarded as one of the best werewolf themed pieces of fiction ever written. A big statement but an exciting one for fans hoping to see it come to life on screen.

Martin has already tried, and failed, to pitch to story for TV to ABC way back in 1991. Instead, another story, ‘Doorways’ was given the go ahead as a pilot but didn’t kick on. Now skin trade gets a second chance with Cinemax right on board. Martin is happy about this obviously, feeling vindicated on his personal blog.

“This being Hollywood, of course, you never know where things will end… but if they like the script, we’ll shoot a pilot, and if they like that, hey, who knows, maybe we’ll get a series on the air.

Which would be very cool. I have always thought there was a TV series (or maybe a feature film) in Willie Flambeaux and Randi Wade.”

The adaptation will be ably written for screen by Kalinda Vazquez, who boasts ‘Prison Break’ and ‘Once Upon A Time’ in her resume.

While it’s unlikely to develop into anything on the scale of Game of Thrones, it may be a thrilling change of pace for those who still haven’t had enough of the fantasy writer.

If it does come to fruition you can bet one of the characters will become an instant cult classic.
