The Nike Mag Boot

The Nike Mag, was a futuristic high top boot designed for Back To The Future 2. The shoe was intended to be a vision of the future, where shoes were self-lacing and cars soared the skyline.

The 2015 Nike Mags

Since the film’s release there have been occasional allusions to the futuristic looking Nike shoe, with a boot even being created for production, however none of these replica’s incorporated the one thing that fans were looking for, the self lacing mechanism… Until now.

On October 21st 2015, the day termed ‘Back to the Future Day’; Nike released a very raw video of Michael J Fox trying on what appeared to be the Nike Air Mag Replica originally unveiled in 2011, however, it was not the hokey light up replica made from prop materials but a new and improved Nike Mag with the one feature the fans have all been waiting for, Power Laces.

Here is the video of Michael J Fox trying on the new Mags for the first time.

Nike revealed that the shoe would be set for production, with only a limited series being produced, and not going on sale until 2016. According to Michael J Fox, all proceeds from the sales of the shoes will go to the Michael J Fox Foundation, which is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson’s. Fox announced this on behalf of Nike at his appearance at the Jimmy Fallon show, only shortly after the footage of Fox trying the boots on for the first time was released.

The shoes will be sold by private auction and are tipped to be one of the most hyped shoe drops of 2016, however due to the rarity of these pieces, only the most hardcore of sneaker heads will be able to fork out the money.

Prices for these shoes are set to be ridiculous and while there isn’t any ball park figures out yet, one can imagine the cost will be astronomical with Ebay sellers asking well in excess of $20,000 AUD for a pair of the 2011 editions (for which there were 1500 pairs made).

Keep your eyes out for a release date on the very nostalgic and much hyped Nike Mags. In the meantime why not check out the following articles;
