FIB’s TOP MODELS Volume 63 — Sexiest Girls: Chrissy Teigen

The world is full of beautiful people. But being sexy dwarfs beauty — it is more than just a pretty face or nice physique. When you look at the Sexiest Girls we have chosen, you see a common factor: they all own their sexuality. There will always be critics, but being sexy is about having the cheers of admiration drown the whispers of jealousy.

So each week, let FIB give you a glimpse into our upcoming book, TOP MODELS Volume 63 — Sexiest Girls. Be warned, though: some of these women can make Kate Moss jealous.

Boy, oh, boy — where to start with Chrissy Teigen? Having started out as a bona fide model — pretty yet seductive, petite yet slender  — she has transformed into a major American TV personality, hosting her fair share of shows. Her current employers are IMG Models and Iconic Management.  Oh, and she also has her own cooking blog . . . and is married to John Legend. Okay, everybody breathe.

Teigen was born Christine Diane Teigen on November 30, 1985 in Utah, USA. It’s hard to believe the daughter of a Norwegian electrician and Thai housewife would end up on the cover of global fashion magazines and do shoots for some of the biggest labels. Well, believe no longer, as such is the case with Teigen.

However, upon further reflection, it is clear how Teigen got to where she is today. In fact, it seems she’s taken the best of her various ethnicities. Her sharp, commanding eyes contrast the effervescence created by her round face; while her temperate nose and dainty lips complete her enigmatic appearance. So perhaps it was these features that attracted a photographer more than a decade ago to approach a retail assistant named Chrissy Teigen. And as fate would have it, this photographer uncovered one of the fashion and entertainment industry’s hidden gems.

Teigen gained notable recognition when she featured on the cover of Maxim’s 2007 calendar. Such exposure paved the way for her role in Sports Illustrated’s 2010 Swimsuit Series, where she was voted “Rookie of the Year”. Not only that, but 2010 signalled the beginning of a five-year affiliation with the company, culminating in her posing alongside fellow babes Nina Agdal and Lily Alridge on the cover of their 50th anniversary Swimsuit Issue.

In 2012, she continued her rise as one of fashion’s sexiest women, displaying her malleability in ads for Nike’s Sportswear NFL Collection and Nine West’s “Runway Relief” Collection. While at this stage Teigen was yet to reach her peak, it is telling that she was able to take part in two completely different campaigns — one related to sportswear, the other to upper class fashion. This seems to epitomise Teigen: she can be as pretty as she can be sexy, as fierce as she can be warm.

Arguably her most successful year was in 2014, as her presence in fashion and television surged. On the fashion front, Teigen featured in campaigns for GAP Factory and XOXO, as well as Michael Kors’ “Watch Hunger Stop” (alongside fellow entrant Candice Swanepoel). That same year, Teigen was on the cover for Cosmopolitan’s June edition and married her long-time fiancé, John Legend, with the couple having their wedding in Como, Italy.

While on the small screen, Teigen became one of the judges for MTV’s Snack Off, a show where contestants have to cook a meal under timed conditions, before being judged by the panel. Teigen also began her reporting for E! Live from the Red Carpet and became a regular guest on E!’s Entertainment Tonight, making her one of the world’s most recognisable figures.

2015 brought more success for Teigen. She featured on the cover of Dujour’s Spring/Summer edition, as well as appearing in UGG Australia’s Winter campaign. On the small screen, she landed her first major role as she became the colour commentator on Spike TV’s Lip Sync Battle, hosted by LL Cool J. In September, Teigen signed on as the co-hostess for FabLife, alongside notable celebrities Tyra Banks and Joe Zee. Her affinity to fashion and lifestyle is further evident in her blog, Sodelushious, where she posts a collection of recipes.

In recent years, Teigen and Legend have been significantly philanthropist. In 2015, the couple chartered vans to supply food and other essentials to Black Lives Matter protesters. That same year, they donated US $100 000 to the Somaly Mam Foundation, a non-government organisation that fights sex trafficking. Earlier in 2015, the couple raised money for Legend’s The Show Me Campaign by “marrying” their dogs and giving donors a chance to meet the singer.

With Teigen only recently turning 30, one can safely say we’ll be seeing a lot more of her on our small screens. With her fashion nous and marketability, the sky is the limit.
