The renowned legacy of French designer Yves Saint Laurent will be showcased in museums in Paris and Marrakech in 2017.
Fashion fanatics and ardent admirers of Yves Saint Laurent will be treated to more than just a glimpse of his career in his famed atelier, his life and the prominent designs that created a whole new world of fashion. Yves Saint Laurent was a visionary designer with many of his designs being canonised in the fashion industry. He epitomised and revolutionised women’s fashion design during his time with Christian Dior and later in his own company. The museums in Paris and Marrakech will pay homage to his iconic couture, including the famous Le Smoking tuxedo.
The first museum of Yves Saint Laurent will be situated at Fondation Pierre Bergé–Yves Saint Laurent located on 5 Avenue Marceau, Paris. The renovations to Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris will begin in April. The design of the museum will be reminiscent of the Yves Saint Laurent era, giving the public an authentic insight into his life and career.
Over 15,000 accessories and 5,ooo couture pieces will go on display, along with Saint Laurent’s atelier, catalogues, couture salon and sketches. This is possible as Saint Laurent was a well-organised archivist.
The second museum of Yves Saint Laurent will be located at Rue Yves Saint Laurent near the eminent Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech, a city he called his ‘adopted home’ in Morocco. Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech will exhibit some of his prominent couture pieces permanently. Much of Saint Laurent’s later designs were inspired by his time living in Marrakech. They represent his admiration for his ‘adopted home’, which he loved so deeply that his ashes were scattered there.
Both Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris and Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech have the personal touch of Saint Laurent and are sure to be a hit with visitors.
