Best Dressed Men at the Oscars 2016

The 2016 Oscars red carpet is the largest breeding ground for celebrity style and silver screen heartthrobs. Let’s pay homage to the boys, and point our eyes towards the men who rose to the occasion.

Chris Rock, the host of the 88th Academy Awards, shed light on the “Ask Her More” movement, which emphasises the point that women are only ever asked about what they’re wearing, rather than the movies they starred in. Rock humorously declares that men are asked more because they are all wearing the same tuxedo.

“If George Clooney showed up with a lime green tux on, and a swan coming out his ass, somebody would go, ‘What you wearing, George?'”

Abraham Attah, was first to hit the red carpet, and even though he is 15 he has shown off his fashionable side. Unlike any 15 year-old you’ve ever seen, Attah wore his Dolce tux and Toms slippers with pride. The Ghana native, Attah, told Ryan Seacrest that the shoe brand will donate 10,000 pairs of shoes to the people of Ghana.

All eyes were on Leonardo DiCaprio tonight, not just for his well-awaited Oscar, but his made-to-measure, Giorgio Armani suit. His classic and timeless two-piece was well accompanied by his bow tie and trademark DiCaprio, slicked-back hair.

Jared Leto is always interesting to keep an eye on, donning a red-piped Gucci tuxedo and replaced the black bow tie with a red floral pin. Don’t forget to check out those shoes! Well done, Jared. Fans of Leto were also pleased to see the brand’s Snapchat account posting behind-the-scenes pics of the Oscars.

Sam Smith turned heads in his fitted tuxedo from Dunhill, showing off his impressive weight loss. The crisp white shirt and black bow tie were complemented by his high shine patent shoes. Smith was likened to James Bond himself, opting for a slightly skinnier cut and controversial acceptance speech.

There has been much debate over Pharrell Williams brazen approach to the red carpet, with some deeming his look as inappropriate or disrespectful. The singer-songwriter is no stranger to controversy, where no awards show is complete without a Pharell ‘fashion statement’, most notably wearing shorts to the 2014 Academy Awards. The rapper nonchalantly cuffed his trousers and rocked his loafers sans socks, a bold approach that only Pharrell could get away with.

The men of the 2016 Oscars were applauded for their interesting ways of revitalising the standard red carpet uniform.
