Just when you think your expectations are as high as can be, the Lonely Island drop a new feature film trailer.
In 2009 The Lonely Island affirmed their place in our hearts and minds with their SNL digital short ‘Lazy Sunday’. Since then we have laughed and sung along as they released hit after hit. After the release of their 2013 album ‘The Wack Album’ we have heard little to nothing from the trio. This changed in a big way this week when the group released the trailer for their new feature ‘PopStar: Never stop never stopping’ and the premiere of their new late night sketch comedy show ‘Party over here’.
Samburg stars as ‘Conner4real’, boy band member turned solo act who after the flop of his latest album is forced to reunited with his band. The film is shot in Mockumentary form, poking fun at it’s real life predecessors (Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never, Katy Perry’s Part of Me and One Direction’s 1D: This Is Us). If the trailer’s explicit nature and star power is anything to go by it looks like the trio have a hit on their hands. The three are joined by Sarah Silverman, Bill Hader, Will Forte, Martin Sheen, Joan Cusack, Simon Cowell, Carrie Underwood and Adam Levine’s hologram.
To fill in the time and Lonely Island sized hole in your heart between now and the film’s release on June 3rd check out Fox’s new sketch comedy show Party Over Here executively produced by Samburg, Schaffer and Taccone. While they are only expected to make a few cameos throughout the season the new show is set to incorporate laughs, music and crudity. The three were seen in the pilot, overlooking the new comedy trio, referred to as “the three captains of our comedy ships.”
With all this on their plates it’s unlikely we can expect a new album any time soon but that doesn’t mean we can’t keep hoping. Let’s throw it back now with one of the greats.
