Alessandra Facchinetti recently announced she would be leaving her role as creative director of Tod’s after 3 years in the position and speculation has already begun on her replacement.
Facchinetti had also previously worked at Valentino as creative director in 2007, but was dismissed only a year after, as her designs supposedly did not draw enough inspiration from the brands previous collections. Facchinetti’s resume also includes the short-lived line Uniqueness, a joint collaboration with Italian brand Pinko which was one of the first to use the “see now, buy now” strategy. She also worked for Gucci following Tom Ford’s departure but left due to a “disagreement in management”, and has previous experience working for Miu Miu and Moncler.
Explaining her decision to depart as creative director of Tod’s, a role she began in 2013 as a replacement for Derek Lam, Facchinetti said
“I will now focus on other projects that I have put aside in order to be able to achieve Tod’s strategies.
It has been an honor to work with this extraordinary family company which puts quality, craftsmanship and excellency at the centre of its business and I am grateful to Tod’s and especially to Diego and Andrea Della Valle, who have given me outstanding support and who will remain dear friends.”
While her successor has still yet to be named, several reports indicate the Italian brand may choose to appoint the role to someone already with the company, as speculation continues to rise that mens creative director, Andrea Incontri will replace Facchinetti.
Before joining Tod’s in 2014, Incontri created his own accessories line in 2009, which would go on to win the accessories category of the men’s “Who Is on Next?” talent search in 2010. The line’s popularity allowed him to eventually expand it to include men’s apparel and women’s wear in 2012.
These various reports indicate that Incontri is indeed a frontrunner to replace Facchinetti, however, only Tod’s knows what the label’s future will be.
