Adidas has released a customised collection of footwear, in honour of LGBT history month. Popular products like the notorious Stan Smiths, Superstars and Slides, will be covered in a rainbow splashed design.
June marks the month that marriage equality was won in the united states, as it also pays homage to the pride flag and the commemoration of the Stonewall riots, which occurred in late 1969.
Stonewall Inn was a bar owned by Mafia, located in New York, Manhattan. It was a venue popular among the gay community. As a common routine of the time, Stonewall was violently raided by police. This time, the gay community stood up and officers lost control of the patrons in the bar. The riots continued for weeks as activist groups successfully fought for venues to be opened, pushing for places where the LGBT community could go without the fear of being arrested.
As this is a dedicated month for the LGBT community to come together, there are events held at the end of June to promote unity of the LGBT. Brand giant, Adidas are showing their LGBT pride through their most popular styles, with a slight LGBT twist.
The apparel has been customized with a multi-coloured design. Classic and original styles such as t-shirts, caps, and 3-stripe sneakers are all included in the “pride pack” collection.
These paint splatters throw off a vibe that is much less serious to what the Adidas original’s line was, and the well-considered designs definitely make a statement, this fits in well with what is trying to be achieved for the community all around the world. Props to Adidas!
