More and more hip-hop artists are making the seemingly inevitable leap into the fashion industry and A$AP Rocky has just joined the likes of Jay-Z and Kanye in this movement.
Whether it’s a retro Blackhawks, inspired jersey or a daring knitted Gucci cardigan, A$AP Rocky has always seemed to impress us with his personal style. Dior appears to be especially impressed, so much so, they have just announced Rocky will be one of the new faces of Dior Homme for their FW16 campaign.
“I mean, it’s dope when you can mix it. It’s all about taking two worlds like street wear and high-end and kind of mashing them together, but when it comes to Dior, it’s just prestige and elegance in my opinion. It’s almost like Coco Chanel was for the lady.”
– A$AP Rocky (interview with WWD)
With his experimental yet casual style, A$AP Rocky has slowly changed hip-hop style both on the stage and on the street. It has been an exciting week for A$AP with the release of his capsule collection with J.W. Anderson going on sale and now there is the announcement on his participation in the new Dior Homme FW16 campaign. Rocky has been a supporter of the brand over the years, having attended numerous shows and events.
He will be featured alongside actor Rod Paradot, film director Larry Clark and model Dylan Roques. For the campaign, acclaimed photographer and director Willy Vanderperrre was brought on board to capture these amazing individuals. Van Assche, artistic director of Dior Homme, said in an interview with WWD that although “They come from different universes and different countries” they all share one common trait. They all have “a rebellion side”. With all of these fiery and rebellious personalities, it definitely would have been an interesting day on set.
