“Boy, have we got a vacation for you!” HBO’s upcoming TV series Westworld has fans excited and with the recent release of a thrilling new teaser trailer, anticipation is building.
Created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy and based on the original 1973 film by Michael Crichton, this new Westworld promises to deal with the never-ending conundrums of artificial intelligence and human consciousness, a concept that was very much at the heart of the original.
The one-hour drama series Westworld is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin. Set at the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past, it explores a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.
Westworld is set in a futuristic theme park that is filled with human like androids, who play the roles of ‘people’ fantasy situations that people pay to experience. Want a dalliance with a woman from the wild wild west? Westworld is your thing. Of course, the problem with creating beings that are super smart is that they can become hard to control once they figure out what is going on. The question then becomes, should they be controlled? Are they real?
Featuring Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood and Tessa Thompson in the leading roles, the cast looks very promising. In addition, like Game of Thrones, another HBO favourite, Westworld is certain to be both violent and highly sexual. With GoT ending soon, fans will be looking elsewhere to get a fix but thanks to HBO they will not have to look very far.
The distinct western setting of film promises to be colourful and vibrant and will likely resonate well with the cold and dark futuristic chambers where all the androids are created.
Westworld premieres this coming autumn, until then take a look at the trailer.
